International Education Week 2021

November 15-19, 2021

What is International Education Week (IEW)?

A national week to celebrate all the global opportunities and cultures that make U.S. Higher Education unique.

Join in the events below, brought to you by the Global Engagement/Study Abroad team.

Greetings from Edmonds Global Engagement and the Center for Student Cultural Diversity and Inclusion!

We are looking for 2-4 student panelists for the Culture Talk: The Culture of Belonging on Monday, December 15 from 12:30-1:45 PM, PST in Brier CSCDI (451)

We will work with you to write a response and discuss from these topics:

  • My cultural identities and how they come up at Edmonds
  • How I found community and support at the Edmonds campus
  • An encounter that happened that has made me feel stereotyped, invalidated, unsupported, or even unsafe. This was my response....
  • From above, my advice if something similar happens to others
  • What an ally looks like to me, and my advice to someone who sees something negative happening to another person
  • My advice on how to be an ally for my culture

If you do not feel comfortable talking about these experiences in public, we will take submissions in the form below and read them for you, and it can be anonymous if you prefer it.

If you are in the live panel, you will receive some Edmonds College swag and a certificate of participation! All RSVPs will be automatically entered to win an Uber Eats voucher.

Greetings from Edmonds Global Engagement!

We are looking for Edmonds community members like you to take part in the first ever Virtual Culture Fair, from November 16 to the 18.

This Fair is part of International Education Week, to celebrate all the global educational opportunities in our rapidly expanding global community.

You can present with friends or alone in a 5-20 minute slot of your choice, on the following days:

  • Tuesday, November 16, 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 17, 12 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 17, 4 p.m.

What does a presentation look like?

We will provide you with plenty of time to meet with Caroline Zeiher, the Associate Director of Global Engagement to brainstorm, get a Slides template, Zoom background to use, and other resources.

Here are some ideas:

  • Play an instrument or song from a favorite musician/group, and share a playlist from Spotify for the audience
  • Do a group dance demonstration
  • Do a simple cooking demonstration and share favorite recipes and cuisine
  • Do a cultural clothing or favorite fashion show
  • Share slides of pictures from your home country, or a specific topic (childhood memories, important history, popular travel destinations)
  • Show-and-tell with an important cultural object
  • Tell a short story you write or a poem
  • Share photos from your country and tell the audience about them
  • Make a trivia game about your culture
  • Teach a language lesson, with basic greetings and phrases
  • Any other ideas are welcome!

Once you choose your topic and sharing method, we will finalize your time slot and have group informal rehearsals prior to the International Education Week so you feel ready!
