Creating Your Syllabus

Each quarter, faculty must develop a syllabus for each course they teach, share their course syllabi with students, and submit copies to the Syllabi Upload tool.

New syllabus? Start with the Edmonds College Syllabus Template, which features all of the required elements.

A course syllabus serves many purposes:

  • Welcomes students to the course
  • Informs students about the course: what they will learn, how they will learn it, and how they will be graded
  • Serves as a resource throughout the quarter to help students keep track of assignments and important dates
  • Informs others (curriculum committee, accreditation teams, transcript evaluators) about the course and how it aligns with other courses
